The PRC offers a multitude of services such as information specialists, peer & family support programs, quality of life grants, and more. In 2002, the Reeve Foundation Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) opened its doors offering sources of support and networking to those living with any level of paralysis. Tomorrow’s Cure.”Ĭhristopher and Dana’s determination inspired hope and created a community for those living with paralysis and their families. The Foundation summarizes its incredible mission in four simple words: “Today’s Care. The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those living with paralysis, and ultimately curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research. A tragic horseback riding accident in 1995 left the ‘Superman’ actor paralyzed from the neck down.Ĭhristopher Reeve, along with his wife Dana, then became prominent activists fighting for funding in spinal cord research at a time when many considered it an impossible dream. Most people still recognize Christopher Reeve from when he played the original Superman on the silver screen. Thank you for supporting our mission, doing some good in the world, and most importantly, supporting those who are impacted by paralysis! You all helped us carry out our stated mission of Doing Good by Doing Right. The Challenge was aimed to raise funds and grow awareness for the Reeve Foundation, which is dedicated to curing spinal cord injuries and providing paralyzed, traumatically injured survivors with a supportive community and resources.Īll donations went directly to the Reeve Foundation, and the Chaffin Luhana Foundation gave away t-shirts and great prizes including a Peloton Tread, Garmin Fenix 5x watch, and a 1-year subscription to Peloton Digital. We recognized those, who like Christopher and Dana Reeve, exhibited the strength to endure and persevere despite overwhelming obstacles, or exhibit values in their daily life such as love and kindness toward others, courage, perseverance and hope. But if you can afford it, it’s an excellent at-home training system and, in theory, means you’ll never have to pay for gym membership again. The Chaffin Luhana Foundation partnered with the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to launch a social media challenge for people to announce and recognize their everyday heroes. At £2,295 for the treadmill and £39 a month for the app, there’s no denying it’s an investment. Whether it’s a live class or one from the back catalogue you can climb the leader board (or make swipe it away if it’s distracting). I also use it to simply walk uphill for half an hour each lunchtime to increase the amount of LISS training I’m doing throughout the week. You can choose a location, New Mexico one day, Vienna the next and run with or without an instructor. The other function that I use regularly is Scenic Run. The beauty of having someone a trainer so close is that it creates an intimate workout experience where you feel they’re encouraging you personally. The instructors advise a number range you should be in for incline and speed at any given moment and I tend to aim for the middle point of each and judge if I can go steeper or/and faster. This isn't just a case of British expertise and accents, the increase in UK trainers means there are now live classes for early birds this side of the pond. British trainer, and Women’s Health regular, Josyln Thompson-Rule has just joined Peloton as a tread instructor so she’s now top of my list. Robin Arzon is so enthusiastic she could inspire a snail to do a 100-metre sprint, and my two other favourites are Adrian Williams and Chase Tucker. Some are more hyped than others, so I know which ones to choose depending on my goals and the mood I’m in that day. I’ve had the Peloton bike for some time so was pleased to see that my favourite instructors from bike classes are run instructors too.
